Data You Give Us Directly
A name, phone number, or address entered into a search widget is sent to the third-party provider that operates that result service. The site’s own pages do not keep a copy of a visitor’s search terms. If someone writes to us, the message and contact details included in it are available to the person handling the reply.
Data We Gather Automatically
Hosting systems may keep routine server-log information such as an IP address, browser type, pages requested, referring page, and timestamps. Basic analytics, cookies, or advertising measurement may also use ordinary visit data where those services are enabled. These records help maintain the pages and understand broad traffic, not build a Hartford resident profile.
What We Do With This Data
Visit data is used to operate the pages, investigate errors, measure broad use, improve content, and respond to messages. Hartford Residents Directory does not sell a visitor list or create an account-based profile from ordinary page use. Search data handled by a third-party results provider is governed by that provider’s own terms and privacy notice.
Links to Other Websites
Pages link to Hartford and Connecticut record custodians, libraries, archives, courts, USPS, and outside search services. When a visitor follows a link or submits a form there, that destination’s policy applies. Sponsored search results are also supplied by a third party, and its collection, retention, and use rules are outside this site’s control.
Who Might See Your Data
Hosting, security, analytics, and advertising providers may process the routine technical data described above. A service provider may see a contact message when it is needed to deliver or protect the site. Information may be disclosed when valid legal process requires it. Public records held by Hartford or Connecticut offices are controlled by those custodians, not by this private reference.
How We Protect Your Data
The pages are intended to use an encrypted connection, and technical logs are retained only as long as the operating purpose requires. There is no Hartford Residents Directory password, account, or personal profile for an attacker to access. No security method can promise absolute protection, so avoid putting unnecessary personal information in a message or an outside search form.
Users Under 18
The reference is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 through a direct contact. If a parent or guardian believes a minor sent personal information, use the Contact page and identify the material so it can be reviewed and deleted when appropriate.
Your Data Rights
Connecticut’s Data Privacy Act, CGS chapter 743jj, §§42-515 through 42-526, can give rights such as access, correction, deletion, portability, and choices about sale, targeted advertising, or profiling to covered consumers and under its applicable exceptions. The Connecticut Attorney General states that covered businesses must honor universal opt-out preference signals beginning January 1, 2025, and generally respond to a request within 45 days, with a possible extension.
Because this site keeps little direct information, a request normally means checking the contact mailbox and relevant technical records. Use the Contact page to ask. State-agency records are governed by separate Connecticut Personal Data Act and Freedom of Information rules; public records held by Hartford, Connecticut, a court, or a library must be corrected or challenged with that custodian. This site cannot remove a government record.
Updates to This Policy
A revised policy will be posted on this page with its current wording. Continuing to use the reference after a change indicates acceptance of the updated policy to the extent the law allows. Questions about a revision can be sent through the Contact page.
